How to Make Money While in Campus
Many students do pay their own school fees while in college but others have their fees paid through bursaries, loans, scholarships, or by parents or guardians. No matter where you fall, making extra cash while in college is something that every student is struggling to do.
Even if you are not paying your own school fees, you still need some pocket money to keep you going. Being broke in college is stressful and can even interfere with your academic performance.
As a student, you must be in the need of extra money for your miscellaneous expenses. We all understand that students have tight schedules and, as a result, have no time to look for any formal or part-time employment to help them raise the funds they need. If you would like to get the funds to cover some of the purchases you are in need of, you must find a way out without affecting your normal schedules a big deal.
In this article, I highlight the different avenues you can take to make some money on campus . I chose the evening because this is mostly the time that is viable. In the evenings, you have finished the classes and you can spend a few hours before you retire to bed. It is also convenient since you can reach many people after they are through with their lessons.
When you spend your evenings properly, you can definitely make something tangible out of it. Here are some of the things that you can do in the evening to make some money while at school. You need to choose what can work for you and use the best resources and your time on it to succeed.
1. Sell Your Notes or Take notes for Other Students:
Not all the students can make it to class or attend all the lectures. At times, some do miss classes for one reason or the other. You can use the opportunity to provide a solution to your fellow students while getting something out of it.
If you know some of the student that are taking the same course as you and cannot make it to class, you can take your notes and share with them while making a few bucks out of the same. What you need to do is get the number, take photocopies of your notes (preferably typed), and sell to them.
To make money out of this method, you must have the correct number to avoid getting copies you do not need. Then talk to the photocopier operator that you have a long-term business with them so that they can give you a good discount. Make sure you do it as often as the need arises.
2. Sell Recharge Cards:
Many students usually need airtime for calls, text messaging and data bundles. If you can supply them with their needs, you can make a few bucks in the evening on the campus. You might want to get a few trustworthy friends to help you in supplying the recharge cards in the different streams and hostels.
3. Offer Shoe Mending and Shining Services:
I know this is a job that many people regard to be a “dull business”. However, if you are really in need of money, you can turn it to be a lucrative business. Many students have little to no time to go out to the streets to look for these services.
Others are not in the capacity to buy new shoes all the year round or get the best shoe polish. This services can benefit many students and you can get a streaming flow of students looking for your services.
4. Start an Odd-Job Services:
There are jobs that are available in college that many people have not realized. you can make money in the evening by offering some of these services that majority of the students need. Examples of the jobs include laundry, general cleaning in the hostel rooms, among some personalized services. You can even be a shopper or messenger.
You can even get a team of your friends to make a strong “company” to offer the “best services”. Doing so will help your fellow students save the time they take to go find whatever they need while you make some money.
5. Start a Snack Business:
Students always need something for their morning or evening coffee. They spend lots of time going to the shops or queueing just to purchase a snack. If you can offer direct delivery services with different snacks, you will save most of their time. Selling smokies, eggs, biscuits, cakes, among others can be lucrative.
All you need is to make sure you understand the needs of your fellow students before you venture into any of the business. You should take your analysis and draw a plan that best works for your scenario.
6. Become a Research Subject
Many colleges and universities seek people to take part in research studies. These studies may range from testing drugs to filling questionnaires. You could make anywhere from $10 an hour to hundreds. There could be some risk with some of these research studies, but you need to use your discretion to choose what is safe for you.
7.Take Surveys
This is a very easy way of making money. Many companies need information on their products to help them improve in quality. Most of these survey opportunities are found online or on job boards. It’s not much money, though, but it adds up, and the surveys don’t take much time. However, before you take up a survey, ensure that the company is legitimate.
8 Become a Private Tutor
Look for programs through your college or specific departments where you could get paid to teach other students – you can also become an online tutor for more flexibility. Choose the subjects/courses you are good at and ensure you do your best. As you get more and more satisfied students they will refer other students to you.
9. Get on Google Adsense
If you are good at writing captivating blogs, you should get hooked up with Google AdSense. Create a blog or let an expert do it for you and start posting articles on this blog. Once your website has met the conditions set by Google, you can apply for Google Adsense so they can approve and start placing adverts on your website.
You will make money each time a visitor to your website clicks on an advert. Keep your blog fresh by adding more and more articles to keep visitors coming. You can also make money by writing for others or by becoming a virtual employee, transcribing, doing data entry, answering phone calls/e-mails, etc.
