Bad Habits That May Hinder Your Success as a Student
Your success throughout the academic year depends on your level of dedication and commitment to the school curriculum. If you are disciplined and have excellent time-management skills, you may perform better academically than your counterparts who are neither focused on their studies nor disciplined.
There are several bad habits which may hinder you from performing well at school, these include:
Too Much Social Networking Sites and Television
You are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc, and you spend most of your time updating your timelines and chatting with friends, or you spend so much time watching television and answering emails instead of concentrating on your academic work. This is a sure way of failing academically and such is a very bad habits so there fore, You should limit as much as possible the number of hours you spend in these activities.
If you have to undertake these activities, then set a specific time during the day or at night and just take a few minutes checking and updating your social network sites. Remember, the more social networking sites are viewed and the more television is viewed, the less time is focused on completing homework and studying.
Procrastination
Students usually put off important activities like projects and homework for the last minute. This adversely affects the outcome of their academic performance. Projects or homework done in a hurry, usually earns them low grades because it increases the possibility of making errors and submitting a second-rate paper.
Excellent projects and papers require more time as they have to go through several drafts and editing. As a student, you should develop a schedule for working on assignments and studying, and strive to stick to it. Start working on your assignments as soon as you can so you may have enough time to produce quality work.
Bad Sleeping Habits
You need to have enough sleep to have an active brain. Avoid the habit of hanging out with friends when you know you have some work to do. Watching television or playing computer games late into the night, or staying up late working on assignments are some bad habits that are not good for you as a student.
Sleeping late will cause you to be tired the next day because it affects the functioning of your brain, more so the ability to remember information. You should get about eight hours of good sleep every night to refresh your brain and prepare well for the next day.
Bad Eating Habits
When you have a tight school schedule, you may be tempted to skip breakfast (or lunch) to quickly go through your daily activities. Breakfast is a very important meal as it gives you that energy to start the day. Without breakfast, you will feel tired just a few hours into the day and this will lower your concentration level. Eat good breakfast and don’t skip lunch.
Those who like to skip meals may be more inclined to eat fast foods that are low in calorie but high in cholesterol and fat. These meals are not healthy and they don’t provide enough energy which you need for you to efficiently go through the day.
Not Exercising
You need regular exercise to keep yourself physically healthy. Exercise is also needed for cognitive functioning by enhancing neurogenesis. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain which is important for memory and learning. Exercise also reduces the stress levels.
Taking Time-wasting Breaks
Make good use of your break times. This is not the time to go to the internet and start purposeless gaming and Web surfing. If you have to visit the internet, visit sites that can help you learn more about what you’ve just learned in class. You can also spend break time simply relaxing; sleep on the grass and avoid any activity that may strain your brain as you wait for the next class.
Buying Things You Don’t Need
Before you buy anything, ask yourself whether it will add any value to your life, more so your academic life. Are you buying something to show off or to please your friends? Are you buying something that will make you waste time at school and at home? These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself before you buy anything – be it a phone, laptop, book, etc.

BAD HABITS THAT MAY HINDER YOUR SUCCESS AS A STUDENT
GUIDELINES ON HOW TO MAKE YOUR PARENT PROUD
Guidelines on How to Make Your Parents Proud
As a student, your parents have tried (or are trying) their best to invest in your education. The expectation your parents or guardian have on you is what drives them forward to support your learning. If at any point you break their heart, you will definitely lose on something.
There is no parents who desires to have a failure and continue spending on somebody who cannot give back to them or be fruitful in their future. As for you, since you have got the privilege to go to the college, you need to do your best to ensure that your parents are always proud of you.
It is the best investment they have put on you. Remember there are many people who would like to go to school but they never go the chance. You, therefore, must do your best with whatever you get and do not disappoint your parents and teachers as well.
Before you ask, making your parents proud does not necessarily mean you have to come top in your class in every other exam. The best way to prove yourself is bringing out the hidden treasure in you. This might manifest in many different ways.
In this article I will cover some of the ways you can apply to help you to be the kind of child your parents would want everybody to know about. You will be surprised to understand that they will not be looking at your educational performance only. Here are some of the things to take note of:
Guidelines on How to Make Your Parents Proud
1. Keep Up the Morals Your Parents Have Been Teaching You:
Every parent wants to have a son or daughter with the highest moral standards. Even though things tend to get out of control in some situations, you must always try as much as you can to maintain the best out of your character. Whether you are at home or on the campus, you must be sure to behave yourself and keep boundaries. Never engage in compromising situations.
Friends are known to be the number one determinant of the character of any individual. When choosing your friends in the university, you must look for people that you share the same interests. Apart from keeping you on guard, they can build your ambition.
When you have friends who can help you have a positive life, it is easier even to plan your future and spend your time on things that matter most to your life as well as impacting other people’s lives. When you keep good morals, it is not likely to be found among those students that get suspended from the school.
2. Do not Be Discouraged When You Fail in Anything You Try Out:
Whether it is an examination or a personal project you are carrying out, I know you will expect the best results out of it. I also know that your parents will be expecting you to come through and show them your victory. That would be great if you can achieve.
However, we know that different circumstances and scenarios may affect your results. No matter what you get at last, you have to prove that you are still good at whatever you were doing or you are going to do better. If your parents are coming rough on your performance, do not reply or talk rude to them.
Give them time to settle and find time and talk with them. Assure them that you can do better and explain what went wrong and what you are planning for better results the next time. If you need any help from them, calmly let them know what it is and give them time if they cannot provide it right then.
3. Be Available and Offer Your Help When They Need You:
While on holiday, your parents expect to have time with you. It is a good idea if you can get home and spend time with them./ They may need you to help them solve a few issues at home, do some manual work, etc. At times, parents feel happy when they see you around and are able to know what kind of a person you are.
If you have anything to work on during the holidays, it is wise to discuss it with your parents. They will be glad to learn your progress and determination. If you can spend a day or two with them and continue with your personal projects, you will be the favorite child of your parents.
If You Make Your Parents Proud, They will shower you with a lot of blessings and prayers and you too will be Glad You Did.

How to make money while in campus
How to Make Money While in Campus
Many students do pay their own school fees while in college but others have their fees paid through bursaries, loans, scholarships, or by parents or guardians. No matter where you fall, making extra cash while in college is something that every student is struggling to do.
Even if you are not paying your own school fees, you still need some pocket money to keep you going. Being broke in college is stressful and can even interfere with your academic performance.
As a student, you must be in the need of extra money for your miscellaneous expenses. We all understand that students have tight schedules and, as a result, have no time to look for any formal or part-time employment to help them raise the funds they need. If you would like to get the funds to cover some of the purchases you are in need of, you must find a way out without affecting your normal schedules a big deal.
In this article, I highlight the different avenues you can take to make some money on campus . I chose the evening because this is mostly the time that is viable. In the evenings, you have finished the classes and you can spend a few hours before you retire to bed. It is also convenient since you can reach many people after they are through with their lessons.
When you spend your evenings properly, you can definitely make something tangible out of it. Here are some of the things that you can do in the evening to make some money while at school. You need to choose what can work for you and use the best resources and your time on it to succeed.
1. Sell Your Notes or Take notes for Other Students:
Not all the students can make it to class or attend all the lectures. At times, some do miss classes for one reason or the other. You can use the opportunity to provide a solution to your fellow students while getting something out of it.
If you know some of the student that are taking the same course as you and cannot make it to class, you can take your notes and share with them while making a few bucks out of the same. What you need to do is get the number, take photocopies of your notes (preferably typed), and sell to them.
To make money out of this method, you must have the correct number to avoid getting copies you do not need. Then talk to the photocopier operator that you have a long-term business with them so that they can give you a good discount. Make sure you do it as often as the need arises.
2. Sell Recharge Cards:
Many students usually need airtime for calls, text messaging and data bundles. If you can supply them with their needs, you can make a few bucks in the evening on the campus. You might want to get a few trustworthy friends to help you in supplying the recharge cards in the different streams and hostels.
3. Offer Shoe Mending and Shining Services:
I know this is a job that many people regard to be a “dull business”. However, if you are really in need of money, you can turn it to be a lucrative business. Many students have little to no time to go out to the streets to look for these services.
Others are not in the capacity to buy new shoes all the year round or get the best shoe polish. This services can benefit many students and you can get a streaming flow of students looking for your services.
4. Start an Odd-Job Services:
There are jobs that are available in college that many people have not realized. you can make money in the evening by offering some of these services that majority of the students need. Examples of the jobs include laundry, general cleaning in the hostel rooms, among some personalized services. You can even be a shopper or messenger.
You can even get a team of your friends to make a strong “company” to offer the “best services”. Doing so will help your fellow students save the time they take to go find whatever they need while you make some money.
5. Start a Snack Business:
Students always need something for their morning or evening coffee. They spend lots of time going to the shops or queueing just to purchase a snack. If you can offer direct delivery services with different snacks, you will save most of their time. Selling smokies, eggs, biscuits, cakes, among others can be lucrative.
All you need is to make sure you understand the needs of your fellow students before you venture into any of the business. You should take your analysis and draw a plan that best works for your scenario.
6. Become a Research Subject
Many colleges and universities seek people to take part in research studies. These studies may range from testing drugs to filling questionnaires. You could make anywhere from $10 an hour to hundreds. There could be some risk with some of these research studies, but you need to use your discretion to choose what is safe for you.
7.Take Surveys
This is a very easy way of making money. Many companies need information on their products to help them improve in quality. Most of these survey opportunities are found online or on job boards. It’s not much money, though, but it adds up, and the surveys don’t take much time. However, before you take up a survey, ensure that the company is legitimate.
8 Become a Private Tutor
Look for programs through your college or specific departments where you could get paid to teach other students – you can also become an online tutor for more flexibility. Choose the subjects/courses you are good at and ensure you do your best. As you get more and more satisfied students they will refer other students to you.
9. Get on Google Adsense
If you are good at writing captivating blogs, you should get hooked up with Google AdSense. Create a blog or let an expert do it for you and start posting articles on this blog. Once your website has met the conditions set by Google, you can apply for Google Adsense so they can approve and start placing adverts on your website.
You will make money each time a visitor to your website clicks on an advert. Keep your blog fresh by adding more and more articles to keep visitors coming. You can also make money by writing for others or by becoming a virtual employee, transcribing, doing data entry, answering phone calls/e-mails, etc.
How to avoid and protect youself against bullies in the school
How to Avoid and Protect Yourself against Bullies in the School
Life is the school is almost a nightmare for most of the new students. This is the truth regardless of the age. Most students undergo a tough situation in many institutions in the hand of the bullies. The fact is, if a bully gets a chance to misuse you, he will definitely leave negative impacts on your life as a student.
Most students do not know what to do when they are attacked or confronted with bullies. They fail to do the right thing and end up being misused by these bullies. To avoid all the problems, you need to understand what you can do to help yourself in case you fall under such a condition.
Once equipped with the tips and knowledge you need to address the bullying guys, you will be in a better position to get yourself out of the mess. This will also help to stop the spread of the menace in the school. When the bullying is stopped, all the students will have a conducive atmosphere for their studies and the general relationships will be healthy. The end results are good cooperation and better performance.
Here are some of the things you can do to address bullying in your school:
1. Have a Good Knowledge of the Bullies:
You need to identify the different bullies in your school. This will help you to know how to deal with them. There are different ways to deal with different types of bullies in the school. You will learn them step by step. However, you must not show any interest in them during the process.
If they know that you are interested in their bullying process, they will make sure they torment you the more. You can use the tactics below to help yourself and those close to you from the same. Make sure that you avoid anything that may hurt you in the process.
2. Have Nothing to Do with the Bullies:
You already understand that bullies are not going to make you happy at any moment. Their main aim is to torment you as much as possible. When they approach you with all their tactics, you do not need to fight back. Do not let them know that you are offended by their presence.
The easiest way to get yourself out is to avoid them at all cost. Once they come to you with all their demands and frustrations, you just excuse yourself and go away. When moving away, let your movement be as natural as possible, without showing any negative expression.
3. Stand Up for Yourself and your Friends:
If moving away does not help you, just make sure that you make a stand and you are not wavered. Do not allow yourself to show panic at any given time. When you show panic, they will take advantage of you. However, when they realize that you are not moved by their advancement, they will simply give up on you.
If at all you see that your friends are under the torment of the bullies, do not let them undergo the same. Just advise them and also stand to protect them. You can tell the guys to mind their business as you and your friends get into something else.
4. Try to Turn Their Bullying Efforts to Some Sort of Amusement:
What you are avoiding here is the bollies knowing that they can actually hurt you. If you are the type that likes to make jokes, you might want to appear as though you are amused by their feeble efforts. When they say something nasty to you, just laugh at them. The more they try, the harder you laugh or look happier.
5. Report the School Administration Authorities:
If none of your efforts work at all, you might want to involve the teachers or school prefects. The administration should summon the bullies and give them warnings or call their parents. However, this might not work if you are in college since most people are adults and the lecturers might think you can fight for yourself.
The Bottomline:
You need to know that there are different types of bullying. If the offenders mostly use verbal method, you can react back in a defensive way, but never show that you are hurt and humiliated. If they have the tendency to cause physical harm, you must engage the administration or avoid them completely.
